Felting
In seventh grade the children are now ready to undertake some complex hard work. Children this age are bursting with creativity and are capable of working independently and in a focused manner for extended periods of time. They are also ready to work with such a serious and yet fragile tool as the needle used for felting. They start with needle felting woolen pictures inspired by nature. This is an extremely artistic project and the children need to draw from everything they have learned in drawing and water color painting and apply it to working with wool. Then we learn to needle felt 3D things such as gnomes and animals. This takes a lot of skill and patience to work slowly and carefully to create something beautiful, and also to not poke oneself with the long sharp needle.
This class is appropriate for:
  • Seventh grade and older
